From Wildlife Biologist to Expert Dog Trainer
My journey with animals began when I was just six years old. That was the year my family got a golden retriever—Sparky. My brother named him, and to this day, we still talk about him as the best dog that ever lived.
Growing up, my mom nurtured my love for animals by filling our home with all kinds of creatures—dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits... the list goes on! That passion led me to pursue a degree in wildlife biology and animal behavior. My dream? To spend my life surrounded by animals and nature.
But along the way, I discovered something else—I loved teaching. As a science camp instructor for the Buffalo Science Museum, I realized how much I enjoyed helping people learn. That’s why I went on to become a certified teacher in biology and general science for grades 7-12.
A Life-Changing Moment
Instead of stepping into a classroom, I became a wildlife biologist for the federal government. I traveled the country, worked with incredible animals, and life was good.
Then, everything changed.
I adopted Sadie, a black lab/chow/shepherd mix with a knack for destruction and a deep-seated love for chasing squirrels. Leaving her alone was a disaster. I tried every dog training method I could find, but nothing seemed to work—until I discovered clicker training and positive reinforcement techniques.
The transformation was remarkable. Sadie became a well-behaved, adventure-ready companion (and, much to the relief of the neighborhood squirrels, no longer a hunter). That experience sparked a new passion: helping other dog owners build the same strong, positive bond with their dogs.

Becoming a Professional Dog Trainer
Determined to turn this passion into a profession, I earned my certification from the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior in 2008. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of dog owners train their pets using proven, science-backed methods.
I also became a Certified Behavior Adjustment Training Instructor (CBATI)—a rigorous certification focused on helping dogs with fear, aggression, anxiety, and reactivity using the most natural way dogs learn.
Why I Do What I Do
I’ve combined my two greatest passions—working with animals and teaching people. Now, I get to help dog owners like you transform their pets into well-mannered, happy companions.
And if you’re interested in dog agility training, well… that’s another story for another page!
I can't wait to help you and your dog create an amazing life together.
